Project:  User Survey on Assistive Listening  Devices and Systems

Updated: March 15, 2006

Investigators:

Judith Harkins, Ph.D.
Matthew Bakke, Ph.D.
Cynthia Conley, Ph.D.

Purpose of this study:

To provide new information to better understand hearing aid and CI users' experience with assistive listening devices and systems (ALDS).

Project Description:

A user survey on assistive listening devices (ALDs) has been developed in part to understand issues associated with the use and disuse of these devices and to obtain information regarding methods that might increase the effective use of ALDs. The web based online questionnaire contains questions about demographic variables, type and characteristics of hearing aids, satisfaction with the hearing aid and questions related to ALD use and awareness

Project Progress:

Analysis of the survey data collected is near completion.  The results will be used to guide the RERC’s work on the CEDAR project as well as standards work aimed at improving the usability of ALDS.  The results will also be useful to industry, clinicians, and those in government concerned with communication accessibility via ALDS under ADA and other statutes.
