About the RERC-HEWhat We DoThe Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Hearing Enhancement (RERC-HE) is a national project funded by the United States Department of Education, National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) in the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services (OSERS). The objective of the project is to conduct research, development, and training programs that promote technological solutions to problems confronting people with hearing loss. This mission is addressed by: The RERC-HE StaffDr. Matthew Bakke of Gallaudet University, and Dr. James Mahshie of The George Washington University, serve as co-directors of the Center. There are 10 research and development projects underway, with researchers from the University of Iowa, San Diego State University, The University of Connecticut, The University of Delaware, Gallaudet University, and George Washington University. The RERC-HE supports the education of future researchers through student support in Engineering and Speech and Hearing Science, and is involved in outreach activities through the Hearing Loss Association of America.
The RERC-HE staff consists of various researchers and clinicians of multi-disciplinary backgrounds including audiology, aural rehabilitation, speech-langauge pathology, engineering, medicine, and business administration.
